Acute pancreatitis related to COVID-19: evidence, challenge and reflection

Abstract:

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to a world-wide pandemic since its onset in December of 2019. Not only capable of cause pneumonia, COVID-19 may also damage other organs. The data about pancreatic indueced by COVID-19 was limited. The incidence, clinical course, pathogenesis and outcomes of acute pancreatitis in these patients remain uncertain. The interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and pancreas are also limited. Therefore, it is imperative for us to keep in mind the possible association between COVID-19 and acute pancreatitis. Hence, rational therapeutic procedures should performed during this pandemic. Effective protective measures should be taken to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection among health care workers when take care these patients.
