Research progress of patent foramen ovale and high-altitude pulmonary edema

Abstract:

Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a type of congenital heart disease. In the past, it has been neglected that effect of PFO on circulatory system due to the blood shunting through the foramen ovale to bypass the respiratory system and dose not participate in the process of gas exchange; In recent years, it has been found that PFO were associated with high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) which is widely concerned in clinical practice.
