Abstract:

As one of the most common clinical phenomenon in the intensive care unit, shock is the clinical expression of circulatory failure that results in inadequate cellular oxygen utilization. Typically, shock can be diagnosed based on clinical, hemodynamic, and biochemical signs. Because of the various causes of shock, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are different. Appropriate treatment is based on a good understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms in order to optimize the clinical outcomes.
